AMP locals are carrier/company exclusive and narrowly tailored for focused support of Aircraft Mechanics. This is also the same organizational model used by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA).
In creating our own independent union, we have total control of our organization, rules, priorities, and money. Our FedEx Aircraft Mechanics are guaranteed the establishment of a single local to support our members nationally, just like ALPA and just like the UPS Aircraft Mechanics. Our Aircraft Mechanics will never be out-represented or out-voted by other larger non-professional / non-technical classes or crafts of employees in a “Big Labor” union. All of our dues money directly supports our Aircraft Mechanic members. AMP is for Aircraft Mechanics, by Aircraft Mechanics.
As an independent union, we have the choice to either remain independent or affiliate with other unions in cooperative efforts without compromising our dedication to serve our FedEx Aircraft Mechanic members. Affiliation is essentially an operational partnership between two unions which allows the unions to manage their membership, organization, rules, and money independently.
AMP maintains good relations with Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA). AMP was created after a series of discussions with AMFA due to the unique complexity of our 1993 Mechanics and Related class or craft. There is no simple way for FedEx Aircraft Mechanics to unionize but AMP gives us the best means to do so.
